Psychology researchers are taking a serious look at “cumshots”
- gregjor 4y agoThe most astonishing detail in this paper: The researchers used Amazon Mechanical Turk crowdsourcing platform to recruit a sample of 201 women and 196 men who lived in the United States. The participants ranged in age from 19 to 77 years. Approximately 44% identified as heterosexual, 36% identified as bisexual, and 20% identified as homosexual. According to this Gallup poll* from early 2022 at least 75% of Americans identify as heterosexual (percentage gets greater with older people). So how does Amazon Mechanical Turk's crowd skew to only 44% heterosexual in a sample of 400, between 19 and 77 years old? * https://news.gallup.com/poll/389792/lgbt-identification-ticks-up.aspx https://news.gallup.com/poll/389792/lgbt-identification-tick...
- jmpman 4y agoInteresting Gallup poll, however they didn’t split out the gender by generation. I’ve always suspected that the male LGBT polling would stay relatively constant for Gen X and more recent, while female LGBT polling would dramatically increase in the recent generations. Curious if my hypothesis is correct.
- feet 4y agoI have a very serious problem with what some psychology researchers are doing lately, which is what you mention. They're just using Amazon Mechanical Turk as a way to get a sample population, but it isn't a representative population of anything besides people who work for AMT. It's lazy and makes for shitty research
