Our boomer parents make enough to feed us and we consume little more than some food and internet service. All the expensive things in life: dating, cars, clothing, travel, entertainment on-the-town... we do without. Books and even videogames are cheap. At my age, one of my parents knew how to work a spreadsheet and that was enough to life in the city in a nice apartment, two cars and a social life, then a baby and a house. I need an internship or 3-5 years experience to get hired for a job with longer hours than he had, that will pay enough for maybe a third of the material life I described above.
