To be clear, the article title isn't inappropriate in a scientific context, but it does feel like clickbait to post it here: I can't see anything about this paper that would make it exciting to non-specialists.
- PaulHoule 4y agoThey were working on LIGO for 20+ years before it went live. I was in a physics PhD program in the 1990s and remember attending a talk where they simulated a neutron star collision and showed what the gravitational wave chirp looked like and it was exactly like the real gravitational wave chirps they measured later. So personally I like hearing about little ‘big science’ projects such as detectors for rare radioactivity (proton decay, dark matter recoils, majorana neutrinos) and this project which may lead to a sun grazing satellite.
