I'm probably in the minority, but I prefer C-f through a FAQ rather than writing with a chatbot, trying to explain what I'm looking for.
It probably doesn't help that most of the current chatbots suck like hell (ehlo bank & insurance).
- robinsonb5 4y agoI'm in the same minority - and for the same reason why I've always been skeptical of semantic and tag-based searching on computer filesystems - namely that it's much more difficult to know when you've completed an exhaustive search. Determining conclusively that the answer you need isn't there is the second best outcome to finding it immediately.
- chrisbaker98 4y agoYou are in the minority - most people don't even know what your first sentence means. If I told my mum to "c-f" through an "FAQ" she wouldn't understand either term.
- tome 4y agoWould she understand "log into OpenAI" and "chat to the ChatGPT bot"?
- chrisbaker98 4y agoShe knows how to log in to websites and type, so yes.
- tome 4y agoDoes she know how to search through a webpage of frequently asked questions?
- martin_a 4y agoNot OP, but I don't know how to do that on the iPad of my mother, being 500+ km away and not owning an iPad myself. I think there's a time and place for chatbots. It's just not everywhere and all the time.
- wnkrshm 4y agoImagine future use like a multidimensional search, instead of direct text match you get text + context match. Edit: I think the 'conversing' with the bot part will go away since people will become tired of holding a conversation to get what they want.
