Yes, they are. Spirit, in particular, has reduce the amount of room to such an extent that anyone over 6' doesn't really fit without their knees pressing into the hard plastic seat in front of them. Look at leg room before booking a flight. It varies quite a bit from airline to airline.
- stemlord 4y agoNo one should be flying Spirit to begin with. Hardly any cost savings because you will be nickle-and-dimed.
- gcanyon 4y agoI've found Spirit+upgrade to the big seats to be cheaper/better than other options. I travel really light, so the baggage fees don't affect me.
- etempleton 4y agoThis. If you do it right and are willing to suffer a bit it can be a deal. It just depends on the circumstances.

- HDThoreaun 4y agoI mostly fly spirit because it actually is much cheaper. Perfect for people under 6 foot who bring nothing but a backpack and don't mind the middle seat.
- bobthepanda 4y agoYou also need to do it on a short enough flight. Spirit for a one or two hour hop vs Spirit across the continental US is two different experiences.
- dopeboy 4y agoFalse - they are objectively cheaper if you're just traveling with a personal item.
- bobthepanda 4y agoWell, FWIW, Jetblue just bought Spirit and will spend most of its time converting Spirit planes to its seating and business model. (Why not just build more planes? Airbus is backlogged for years, and there aren't enough pilots. Spirit is a package deal in that sense.)
