make, automake, conf, autoconf, m4 … I don’t understand why people are surprised to see similar complexity creep in the “reborn” CMake ecosystem. There has never been a one size fits all all purpose glue. It’s not surprising to me that neither is it possible to make a one size fits all “glue my software together” stack.
