JS is the most important language in computing and, arguably, the most important language in the history of computing because it has far more compilers and interpreters installed, programmers who know the language, code written, tools available, applications used, and customers than any other programming language in history.
JS came by its ubiquity almost accidentally; it certainly wasn't planned. But it earned its stripes with credibility. The language just simply works. It will be with us in 50 years. And, thanks to TS, is improving all the time.
An interesting side node: Had JS not been invented first, Lua is most likely the language that would have this role.
