I guess this is marginally better than a widespread cyber attack on critical infrastructure? Not that either one is a good thing, but at least this sort of thing can be fixed in a few days.
Hope they catch the perps. My state doesn't always make the news, but when it does, it's usually for some nonsense like this...
- x86_64Ubuntu 4y agoI've heard the lead time on some of the affected parts is on the order of 1 year.
- whythre 4y agoHopefully this attack wakes people up and we can get some replacement parts made in case of an emergency. Probably not, but one can hope.
- dredmorbius 4y agoDepending on what equipment has been damaged, physical attacks on electrical infrastructure may take months to repair. There are a number of books that address risks to the grid. The one I specifically recall was by Ted Koppel, Lights Out: A Cyberattack: A Nation Unprepared: Surviving the Aftermath though there are several others listed here: <https://shepherd.com/best-books/electrical-grid-vulnerabilities-and-our-survival https://shepherd.com/best-books/electrical-grid-vulnerabilit...> By one account, attacks on just nine substations could take the US power grid offline for up to 18 months: <https://www.foxnews.com/politics/small-scale-power-grid-attack-could-cause-nationwide-blackout-study-says https://www.foxnews.com/politics/small-scale-power-grid-atta...> (2015)
