Ask HN: Why doesn't HN have a poll feature?

• shaburn 4y ago
Twitter, Linkedin, and YouTube now have native poll features with exceptionally high, value added engagement.

You could start a Poll to ask why there isn’t a Poll feature: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21231804 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21231804

You can create a poll, it's in the FAQ https://news.ycombinator.com/newpoll https://news.ycombinator.com/newpoll

Thank you for submitting but these are pretty lame compared to the other social networks. Dramatically hurts engagement relative.

You could start a poll to ask if anyone cares. I predict most HN users don’t give a second (or first!) thought about how polls compare to other social networks, because HN is not trying to be like them and that’s a feature. HN can be addictive enough as it is, adding more bells and whistles is not the answer.

To make it easier, a friend made an HN poll viewer with “create a poll” link: https://hnpolls.com/ https://hnpolls.com/

It might be an idea to have a filter for polls on the top line, this would give it visibility, although it would add a bit of clutter. Is it up there with Ask, Show, and Jobs?
