Edward Snowden swears allegiance to Russia

  Of course, you get all the expected tut-tuts from functionaries of the U.S. empire, which would give Snowden the Manning treatment the second he was extradited, a fate against which he is protected by obtaining a Russian passport. Not sure if this was the original Guardian headline but the current one correctly places the emphasis on the passport as the motivation for Snowden's actions.

    It's the Law of Unintended Consequences. The US cancelled Snowden's passport. He now has to get one from some other country. ALL countries require an Oath of Allegiance to become a citizen and thus eligible for a passport. If he'd been in Switzerland, he would have had to swear Allegiance to Switzerland to get a Swiss passport. Now if the US hadn't cancelled Snowden's US passport ......
