Except you can't.
- angry_octet 4y agoSince I'm writing about a future scenario, such as under the authoritarian President De Santis administration, I quite obviously cannot provide proof. What I know is that laws and regulations should be scoped to preserve liberties under even the worst executive. The many people who have SSSS on their boarding passes for 'extra scutiny' as part of some cryptic TSA process seem a good enough example of the Govt keeping secret lists of undesirables. A random selection of SSSS tweets: https://twitter.com/mjs_DC/status/1097895615479144448?t=y2yYWBYxmuikyc-5xuzT6Q&s=19 https://twitter.com/mjs_DC/status/1097895615479144448?t=y2yY... https://twitter.com/DoualyX/status/1029128870996324352?t=Jn9TNXFiIwLTdTIDI7fnHg&s=19 https://twitter.com/DoualyX/status/1029128870996324352?t=Jn9... https://twitter.com/SheRoamsAbout/status/1056946018229669889?t=MgdTLNKJfKje-oxjNE734Q&s=19 https://twitter.com/SheRoamsAbout/status/1056946018229669889... Tell me these people are security threats.
- oogali 4y agoWhen I used to travel for work I would [reliably] get SSSS but only in one specific scenario: flying to/from DCA (Washington, DC) on a specific airline. All other flights were fine. I once flew from Montreal to Washington, DC and there was secondary screening at the gate. I held up the flight because airport staff didn’t know the procedures on how to handle my SSSS flag. I called DHS about getting off the list and after getting bounced around a few times I was told: - I was not on the no fly list, which DHS does actively maintain - DHS manages and publishes selection criteria which is pushed down to airlines. What the airlines do with it and when they do it is their own process independent from DHS - I could submit my driver’s license, proof of address, address history for exclusion, as well as any additional information requested after the initial submission. - DHS would review and update the parameters, but it would be 6-12 months before the database update fully took effect with the airlines. I stopped flying that one airline 16 years ago.
