I feel bad about dedicated cloud compute being paid for and idling on a dedicated VM when it could be co-hosted with other payloads. I don't feel the same way about personal devices. As an extreme example, I'm happy to have a gas mask and a microcontroller powered Geiger counter in my storage room for emergency purposes and never use them ever.
