Short answer: don't. Long answer: I work as a software developer/data scientist in a company and I would commit murder to get into academia in a field that interests me. If the pay is okay and I can just focus on what I want - that's the dream. Like another comment says: Fight for your own resources (time) and make it clear when you want to work and when you're open for administration, etc. You're already in the best position to be able to do meaningful work.
