U.S.A. gun death rates hit highest levels in decades
- Bostonian 4y agoLess law enforcement, as demanded by Black Lives matter, is not mentioned as a possible explanation. New York City, for example, used to be much more aggressive in prosecuting illegal gun possession.
- Ferrotin 4y agoThe perception of less law enforcement is what matters here, and is why rates increased all over.
- daVe23hu 4y agolax prosecution on the part of Soros DAs and AGs. If we remove Chicago, Baltimore, East St Louis, and a few other population centers we now have murder rates among the LOWEST in the world on a national level. FYI to check real time data in 2 of the most dangerous cities run by democrats https://homicides.news.baltimoresun.com/ https://homicides.news.baltimoresun.com/ https://heyjackass.com/ https://heyjackass.com/ FYI those 2x data trackers show males to be the largest share of victims I realize the article focuses on "rate" would have been nice if they showed details on data. Charm City is particularly bad if the per 100k murder rate was transferred to NYC we would be seeing close to 6k murders per year. No one really cares about these cities. It should also be noted the areas with highest murder rates have the strictest gun laws. I do not own guns - stated in advance of welcomed critics to my comments. :)))))
- ashwagary 4y agoLiving costs doubled and inflation increased 500% in a short period of time...wages stayed the same. Shouldnt be surprising that crime spikes as the population gets squeezed regardless of prosecution style.
- infamouscow 4y agoThis was a predictable outcome. It's not like criminal justice researchers haven't studied police budgets. Rather, it's political ideology that refuses to believe the experts because it's incongruent with their world view.
- pannSun 4y agoKeep in mind that "gun deaths" include suicides. I'm not sure what kind of policy choice is informed by counting suicide and homicide under the same category. But it does make the gun problem seem more severe to the inattentive reader.
- lax4ever 4y agoWhat this article doesn't point out is that CDC, DOJ, and FBI estimates, as well as a range of private studies and surveys, put defensive firearms usage about a conservative minimum of 300,000 instances per year, though it can range to around 1-3 million depending on the source. I would normally discard that kind of range, but the numbers have been fairly consistent in the 300,000 to 1,000,000 range. That means that for every person killed with a gun, either through homicide or suicide, there are at least 7 people who defend themselves with one.
