So, is it "Ethereum's" or the validator's cute? Who is this monolithic "Ethereum"?

  It depends what you mean by "Ethereum". The usual meaning is the network that runs the blockchain. Validators are part of the network. I mean, it's a decentralized network—that's the point—there is no monolithic "who".
