I quit tech and became a therapist
- jfengel 4y agoI would find being a therapist extremely difficult. Patients can be in a lot of pain, and your tools for helping them are limited. Frequently, truly awful things have happened to them. The problems are mostly insoluble, and your job is almost by definition not about solving them. Anybody with a sense of empathy would find that very stressful. Many are able to handle that in a variety of ways, but I don't think I could. I'd end up dwelling on something awful I heard. Good for you, finding something meaningful that makes the world a better place, against challenging odds.
