Its a real shame they don't have a related research on Long Covid which the WHO estimated at 144 million in October. To me it looks like we are running on about 1 direct death to 3 indirect deaths and about 21 disabled.
All in most of the impact of Covid 19 so far seems to be 84% disabled, 12% excess dying and 4% directly dying from the acute infection. Most of the impact is after the acute infection has passed.

- ghaff 4y agoThe government in the US (and other western countries among others) are constrained by what their population is willing to accept. And it's pretty clear those populations as a whole (and it's certainly not just a US thing) have said screw it and are back to business as usual. Yes, some people are still wearing masks, but even many of them seem to be still fine with traveling and going to large events so long as they keep their masks on (when not eating/drinking). And there's also the question of what should "we" be doing. With all 5 shots, I attended an event that required masks in September and still caught COVID. So short of becoming a hermit--which of course isn't an option for all the people needed to keep society operating--I'm not sure what the options are.

- taolegal 4y ago> half your workforce disabled This is such fantastic misinformation, and I'm surprised more people aren't called out on it. It's usually the most supposedly "sophisticated" that espouse it too.

- taolegal 4y agoBy mitigations you mean the draconian policy for healthy people that failed to protect the elderly and vulnerable anyway? And all of this debate fell apart after vaccines were unveiled as a magic bullet, and then talk of herd immunity threshold died after the majority of people got vaccinated.
