I would say that we failed to establish an (educational) system that would produce higher average of so-called "mediocre" minds. When you have a educational system that is, in it's core, unchanged for more than 100 years, and where the only goal is to enable everyone to pass and not to learn, then it is hard to see any other outcome.
- onos 4y agoIt has changed dramatically: we went from teachers doing their own thing to having strict top down curricula taught towards tests + dramatic drop in expectations.

I think this idea that the most important thing of all is that everyone passes is a good example of the mediocre mind’s value system. It’s utterly pointless. There’s plenty of work you can do without understanding calculus. But it does limit excellence, and (sadly) I think that’s the whole point.
