"Very interesting person at Neuralink is Autumn Sorrells, the animal care director. I have been to some grim, grim animal labs at universities and elsewhere. Sorrells and her team do actually care about these creatures and are advancing a number of new, kinder training techniques"

"As a big time animal softie, I've been impressed with Sorrells and her team's work. Is part of the BCI story that does not get touched on very much"

I'd argue that Autumn is more than qualified for the job...
- iancmceachern 4y agoAn animal lab is by definition grim. I've also been in many, including the very UC Davis lab where these neuralink studies were done, many times. What you reference is clearly a PR campaign from Neuralink in response to: "In a lengthy complaint filed with the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) said the research caused “extreme suffering” in its test subjects, who “had their brains mutilated in shoddy experiments and were left to suffer and die”..."PCRM obtained hundreds of pages of health records, necropsy reports and other documents related to the $1.4m partnership through California’s open records laws. It said the documents reveal the monkeys suffered “extreme psychological distress” from the “crude surgeries” https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2022/feb/15/elon-musk-neuralink-animal-cruelty-allegations https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2022/...
- xedeon 4y agoLet's be intellectually honest here. Do you have any substantiated sources? Those are claims. I can make a false claim that you did the same. Also, Ashley Vance does not work for Neuralink. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashlee_Vance https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashlee_Vance
- iancmceachern 4y agoSounds good: "More than 600 pages of records previously released by UC Davis showed monkeys suffering from chronic infections, seizures, paralysis, and painful side effects following experiments by Neuralink. In two separate incidents, experimenters used an unapproved adhesive called BioGlue to fill holes in the animals’ skulls, which seeped through to the monkeys’ brains. In one monkey, the use of BioGlue caused bleeding in her brain, and she vomited so much from the resulting side effects that she developed open sores in her esophagus." https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20220926005606/en/Physicians-Committee%E2%80%99s-Lawsuit-Against-Elon-Musk-Company-Neuralink-Reveals-Existence-of-Hundreds-of-Photos-of-Monkeys-Used-in-Painful-Experiments https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20220926005606/en/Phy... There are many ways for a company to compensate people, other than hiring them as an employee (consulting fees, board seat, stock, etc.) I sincerely doubt Ms. Vance is doing this for free. I cannot reply to the below reply to this post from Mr. Vance, so I've edited my comment here to conceded the point I made in my last paragraph. It seems that Ms. Vance is not being compensated by Neuralink for these statements. Why anyone would give their precious time away to a billionaire is beyond me, but to each their own I guess.
- xedeon 4y agoI'm not sure you understand what "substantiated" means. > There are many ways for a company to compensate people, other than hiring them as an employee (consulting fees, board seat, stock, etc.) Again, that's a claim. The burden of proof is on you. Do you have any? > I sincerely doubt Ms. Vance is doing this for free. It's Mr. Vance.
- iancmceachern 4y agoHey Mr. Vance, it looks like many folks disagree with you and your wife's stance on Neuralink, including some of their own employees.
