Ask HN: "HipHop" (compiling Ruby to C++) implementation for Ruby code?

As most of you know, PHP code could be compiled to C++ code with the help of "HipHop" and as a result becoming about 4 times faster. I'm curious, what's the main obstacle that this technique hasn't been applied to Ruby (RoR) code?
