Svbtle is doing unauthorized credit card transactions on my card
SVBTLE essentially charged me 4 times in the row for the annual subscription fee. I tried to email their concierge multiple times service with no response.
Seems like there are other customers going through the same: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33684437
I wonder the scale of the problem and if this a wider scale activity that they are undertaking.
I have already reported this to the credit card processing company, Stripe and asked my bank to initiate a dispute.
I am positive Curtis is not aware of this, thats just not the sort of person he is. In either case, its pretty serious that this has happened,
- pedrost 4y agoYep reached out to Stripe, not much can/will be done.
- nullfield 4y agoStripe… will just tell you to go fuck yourself, in only slightly more polite language. If they were to let you manage recurring transactions on your card (which their system may not even keep the record of, tokenizing it completely) then they could be accused of contractual interference if, say, you had a 1-year contract for that charge and they just let you stop it. Their solution? Merchants use their API to enable you to handle it. How well that works in practice? Fuck around and find out, but it ends in a cancelled card number in bad cases, and a closed account in worst cases since some credit card companies will just fork over data to merchants for “recurring” authorized transactions, even after a number change. Really it’s pretty much criminal, and there’s no meaningful solution. Perhaps small claims for the losses incurred plus costs to replace the card, with an actuarial take on the longer term cost from the credit score hit, etc. … but again, good luck.
