This title seems to imply some sort of mutual exclusivity. It is almost certainly a crime and an accident. (note I am not implying Sam Bankman-Fried wasn't criminally negligent or unaware of the risks/scam)
- etempleton 4y agoIt can be both and almost always is, but the point is that this incompetence storyline seems a bit too well constructed. I think this is just another con. Radio silence for a few days and then he replies to a reporter and oops—‘Never thought he would publish it. I thought I was off the record talk to a friend.’ Really? A friend you almost never talk to and is a reporter? He is too smart to be that dumb. You can’t build that much of a fortune, even if it is partially smoke and mirrors, and be that dumb. And all of the moves FTX made do not indicate someone that didn’t know what they were doing. It indicates someone that knew what they were doing but got greedy. I can believe he deluded himself into thinking he would recover the assets, in the same way Bernie Madoff always thought he would, but it doesn’t make it less criminal.
