All talk and no substance, this thing won't go anywhere. Elon probably got what he wanted from Apple and everything else is just fud for the masses. Elon does not care the 30% or what Apple does in China. He wants Twitter to stay in the app store and Apple to pay for advertising on Twitter.
- crossroadsguy 4y ago> Elon probably got what he wanted from Apple Yup - the attention that he met people at Apple HQ.
- mandeepj 4y ago> Apple to pay for advertising on Twitter You can’t win a fight with Tim. E-lawn should have consulted with Zuck first. He did something similar and we all know how it ended for Meta. Most probably Elon is getting schooled, spanked, and hopefully not dragged around in that beautiful Apple park.
- sschueller 4y agoI hope he is getting schooled but he always seems to luck out somehow.
- mrguyorama 4y agoHard to fall on your face when you have ARMIES of normal people all jockeying to put the pillow under you for free
- mandeepj 4y agoAre you certain we can call them normal?
- SllX 4y agoZealots are a normal feature of human society, so yes.
- pessimizer 4y agoThere are a lot of people who spend a significant part of their day posting over and over again about Elon Musk, and congratulating each other for it. I assume that's not being a zealot. It's like the people posting about "Putin's cock" 100 times a day who think that it's actually the other people who are obsessed with him.
- SllX 4y agoCorrect. Anti-zealotry is another form of zealotry; like atheists who are militantly atheist rather than just chill about it, but all of that too is just normal people being normal.
- dotancohen 4y agoI'm certainly not normal, but for all of Elon's eccentricities I'm thankful for jumpstarting the EV industry and revamping the space launch industry. He gets a lot of rope for those endeavours, no matter if he uses it to bind Cook's hands or hang his own neck.
- mullingitover 4y ago> Elon probably got what he wanted from Apple and everything else is just fud for the masses I feel like Elon going Apple HQ is not a sign that he got what he wanted, it's a sign that he was summoned there to be disciplined. If he had some form of leverage over Tim Cook, it would be Cook that would be doing the traveling.
- totalZero 4y agoAt that level, any kind of in-person visit is a sign of mutual good will. Traveling to see someone is an act of respect, and opening your doors to someone honors that person. Not every interaction is zero-sum.
- mullingitover 4y agoMusk posted news of his visit there by showing a video clip of the pool on the Apple campus. No evidence of the two even meeting in person as peers. I get the sense that if this was a friendly visit there would've been a shot of the two CEOs together. It makes me wonder if he even got into the same room with Cook. Cook made no mention at all of meeting with the CEO of the fifteenth-largest social network.

Seems to me the reason there's no picture is that the visit wasn't for us, it was for them.
- 2OEH8eoCRo0 4y agoApple is too powerful if you need to visit Apple's HQ and kiss the king's ring to stay on their store.
- acdha 4y agoI would look for better examples than Twitter to base that claim on. The primary lesson to draw there is that you’ll have a harder time running a business if you act like a coked-up frat boy, which is … not a surprise?
- 2OEH8eoCRo0 4y agoThe point is that at even the slightest hint that Apple might compromise Twitter's iPhone App or advertising, Musk has to visit and smooth things over. Have you heard that actions speak louder than words? If Apple didn't have too much power why would this occur?
- tedunangst 4y agoBecause Elon is a nut and likes stirring up drama? For real, who was the first person to tell Elon that twitter was going to be banned? Was it Tim Cook? Or was it catturd?
- 2OEH8eoCRo0 4y agoAttack ideas, not people. What does Elon's actions have to do with Apple's anti-competitive behavior?
- acdha 4y agoWe don't reliably know that this was anti-competitive, or even what the meeting was about. It could have been related to Apple pulling advertising — since they're reportedly the largest single advertiser that'd get an HQ visit on its own — or simply that communications had broken down due to all of the fired people not being replaced. That's the larger point here: he's making pointless, stupid mistakes and that means that a lot of things are happening which technically could be part of some big conspiracy but might also be Musk shooting himself in the foot again and then blaming anyone but himself.
- yalogin 4y agoIf I have learned anything about Elon, he is a bully and is currently using freedom of speech to get what he wants. He has an army of fans which include opportunistic powerful politicians and he is threatening to let them loose on anyone that doesn’t do his bidding. He doesn’t have any principles and won’t stick to any unwritten rules of decorum either.
- leobg 4y agoElon Musk has no principles? I find it strange how you could come to such a conclusion. These issues he engages in nowadays are exactly in line with what he cared about many years ago. For instance, around 2016 he shared his thoughts on building a tool to measure the credibility of journalists, which he wanted to call Pravda. What is his purchase of Twitter if not the culmination of this idea, rooted in the very same principle?
