in my opinion Jeffery Ventrella's clusters are a more promising avenue than Conways GoL. The rules are in comparison very interesting as well: No creation out of nothing, only particles that attract or repel each other.

Will play with that idea a bit soon :) (I have to say the presentation style of the video gets on my nerves a bit though, especially the "typing on a keyboard" sound effect.
