Totally agree. But the language and wording structure is a slog to get through.

- tizio13 4y agoI highly recommend the version published by Penguin Classics: ISBN-10: 0140449337 This version is translated by Martin Hammond. He does a fantastic job at making this a comfortable read. And another bonus, this version is Narrated by Richard Armitage. His voice filled the book with life.

- Fission 4y agoThere are a lot of different translations with varied ease of reading, modernity of prose, and fidelity to the original source. The one by Gregory Hays is one of the newest and is my preferred translation.
- an_aparallel 4y agothanks for mentioning this - i was reading it and the older language was offputting, but i could see the beauty in whatever glimpses i got :)
