There’s really nothing specific about Gen Z in this post.
I’m Gen X, and have spent most of my career in open office spaces. I’ve been WFH since March 2020 (in a small one bedroom apartment, with my girlfriend in the same room). I generally don’t miss the commute, and open offices can be distracting, but in my case it’s weird working on mechanical and industrial design of hardware without a dedicated space to collaborate. My current company doesn’t even have a real office.
In the past few years, I’ve moved to fully cloud based CAD, and Slack, so it’s a bit hard to compare to the before times (and I’ve also changed jobs). Those aspects help with WFH, but there’s still no substitute in my field for touching/seeing/using/testing real stuff together in person.
