I looked into a PHEV last year but didn’t bite the bullet. One thing I learned is there are a lot of chargers out there. Even Ubiquiti (Unifi) has a charger on the horizon or possibly in early access now. They said don’t mine gold sell shovels, smart car chargers are an interesting niche market. My local power co-op offers free rates during the night time. The caveat is my daytime rates would near double. Not sure if it was worth it. Being able to schedule charging is a must for the car and/or charging.
