I did some work on navy bridge equip entailing touchscreens. Touch screen is susceptible to being put out of commission. Also under heavy rolling or adverse motions, miskeying remains a serious UI issue. Automobiles should also not use touchscreen as it requires averting eyes off the road. Dusty or moisty condition makes cleaning problematic and can render its tactile feedback inoperable. Ribs or bump line/grid outlining buttons on touchscreen does not even help further. Knobs and switches are kings for any ruggedized and furtive environment.
