The JavaScript framework for visual programming
- dtagames 4y agoI'm always interested in visual programming ideas, but this one -- like most others that aim for a general use case -- falls short. -- Who is this made for? A person who can program in this can write code as text. -- Visual boxes like these hide the function definition, needed for debugging and extending the app. -- There is no difference between typing parameters and typing values in these visual boxes. -- What kind of app UI can be built with this? To be useful in production, other people have to be able to run it. -- The API for these visual boxes recreates 90% of the JS/HTML API for no reason. -- Connecting the code and behavior of these boxes to a real UI that runs in the browser will be nightmarish. They are two different ecosystems. Having said that, if one is interested in learning to code (rather than trying to avoid coding by drawing lines), Microsoft Makecode is probably the best-in-class way to do that right now. It has visual components but also real Typescript, which is what a newcomer should probably be learning right now. As an example, here's a browser based game[1] I wrote that can be edited in blocks or in text.
