Musk faces fines if Twitter’s gutted child safety team becomes overwhelmed
- throwaway0x7E6 4y ago
- clouddrover 4y agoThe EU can fine Twitter. The EU has fined Twitter before: https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-55317207 https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-55317207
- throwaway0x7E6 4y agothey can't do shit if Musk withdraws from EU market
- clouddrover 4y agoSure. Musk wants to lose more revenue. It's all 4D chess.

- ss108 4y agoFuck them for not letting petulant manchild do whatever? Ok
- throwaway0x7E6 4y agofuck them for acting like it is still the colonial era and they get to dictate their will to the rest of the world. the EU law applies to those unfortunate enough to reside within its borders. nobody else has to give a damn.
- l3uwin 4y agoHave you heard of America? The cognitive dissonance here is astounding
- agubelu 4y agoWell it's a relief to know that if I ever export products to America, I don't have to worry about complying with their boring laws since I don't reside there.
- rsynnott 4y ago> fuck them for acting like it is still the colonial era and they get to dictate their will to the rest of the world. The large economies (US, Europe, sometimes China if the company plays in that pool) co-regulate multinationals for practical purposes. In the absence of a world government, that is, really, the only way it could work; if you want to operate in market X, you obey its rules.
- bildung 4y agoTwitter currently seems on the road to withdrawing from every market...
- RavingGoat 4y agoSeeing that the EU will fine him and Apple/Google will remove Twitter from the app stores I think he might want to rethink his unintelligent stance. Please don't come back with he'll create his own phone and destroy Apple. That's laughable.
- throwaway0x7E6 4y agoI'll come back with 'they can't do shit about the website'
- ratsmack 4y agoI see the entire article is based on information from ex Twitter employees and no effort was made to contact the current Twitter admin on what their position is.
- veqq 4y agoDoes anyone have an idea how much they were spending on compliance moderation? Fines of these types seem rather low normally, so I could imagine reducing a few blocks of 10 100k jobs (in reality costing the firm perhaps 1.5 million, including payroll taxes, benefits and a manager on top of them) to save more than whatever small sum they expect to be fined.
