French electric grid won't cope this winter: our nuclear powerplants are at the end of their life (50+ yo), more than half of them are in maintenance. We're now a net importer of electricity, cuts are already planned for January. Most people (myself included) that want to reduce their energy bill go with something else than electric.

The grid can cope but there simply isn't enough power being supplied to the grid. The power companies should've planned the maintenance more prudently.

That isnt a problem with the grid though thats a problem with the nuke plants.
