Obviously the grid can cope if you size it accordingly. In France they heat their homes with electric central heating and the system can cope.
So EV's shouldn't be a problem.
- throw827474737 4y agoWhat has become of the thoughts to let the grid not only cope with it but actually make the cars part of the battery system to support the grid for peaks?
- cagenut 4y agoV2G is mostly relegated to "someday, hopefully soon", but there are two incremental steps that are already getting traction in the market today, V2H and V2L.
- jmnicolas 4y agoFrench electric grid won't cope this winter: our nuclear powerplants are at the end of their life (50+ yo), more than half of them are in maintenance. We're now a net importer of electricity, cuts are already planned for January. Most people (myself included) that want to reduce their energy bill go with something else than electric.
- UltraViolence 4y agoThe grid can cope but there simply isn't enough power being supplied to the grid. The power companies should've planned the maintenance more prudently.
- pydry 4y agoThat isnt a problem with the grid though thats a problem with the nuke plants.
- iggldiggl 4y agoRome wasn't built in a day, and neither was the French grid. So the problem isn't the new end state of the grid as such, but rather how quickly you can get there.
