Why has CORBA lost popularity?
- FrankWilhoit 4y agoCORBA was the right idea, but no one knows how to design protocols. No one understands idempotency or its intersection with partitioning. Also, the uptake of a facility like CORBA is determined by the quality of the documentation that is made available with the initial release. The doco for ONC RPC, and later DCE RPC, focussed almost exclusively upon the issues associated with marshalling -- and Microsoft's documentation for OLE and COM perpetuated that slant --, while everything to do with failure modes was implementation-defined. The naive purport of COBRA, like every other such thing, is to deny the CAP theorem. This can only lead to disappointment.
