The stars are really aligning for Elon Musk's new censorship free Twitter.
- duxup 4y agoNot sure Twitter is immune here.
- version_five 4y agoIronically, legislation of this kind usually (in other industries) is written or promoted by incumbents to be a barrier to entry that can reduce competition because only big companies can deal with it. Twitter is much better positioned to either fight or comply in some hollow way, vs smaller companies that have real problems to work on. I know some laws like this only apply to platforms of a certain size though, that may be the case here.
- nullish_signal 4y agoMusk has threatened to develop a new Phone if Apple and Google block Twitter from their devices. I would hope he lets the UK block Twitter before implementing China-like regional censoring. I was curious about Musk's dependencies in China (Tesla Gigafactory/ Chinese Car Market access), and just now learned that Twitter is blocked country-wide there. (but routinely accessed by VPN) So if The CCP in particular threatens Musk to censor Twitter, he can just tell them that's their problem.
- duxup 4y agoI don’t think that really changes anything regarding the law / article.
- bergenty 4y agoSounds like the exact opposite of aligning to me.
- someNameIG 4y agoMusk wont unban Alex Jones (which is fine by me) because of what he's said. And Musk has said he'll shadowban people who don't pay the $8 a month.
