In WW2, Germany had the most advanced weapons technology.
Meanwhile, both the US and the Soviets had 'good-enough' weapons technology that they out-produced by many times the small numbers of the high-tech weaponry of the Germans.
It's no good having a weapon that has a 100:1 kill ratio, if the enemy can throw 101 of its own weapons against it.
It's the same situation at present in the 'semiconductor war' between the US and China. The US has the high-tech stuff, but they can/will be swamped by the much cheaper and numerous 'good-enough' chips from China. Later on the Chinese companies, due to that higher income from sales, will 'out-tech' the US companies that don't have enough ready cash to throw at research into higher tech stuff. The US companies will fall behind, the Chinese companies will take over.
And all this because when the Chinese companies were perfectly content to purchase several hundred billion dollars
worth of 'buy-built' semiconductors every year, the US in its wisdom decided to ban those sales and force the Chinese to 'roll their own'.
Mistake, big mistake, HUGE.
