What I really hope someone invents is a way to 3D print something that feels like a street tree. I'm fine with it being a lot more expensive because we obviously wouldn't print forests full of them, but being able to put in an urban canopy without having to wait 30 or 40 years would be a game changer. Maybe you 3d print the trunk, and come up with some kind of artificial root system, and splice/graft regular tree limbs onto that substrate and it took 5 years for it to really fill out would be awesome.
