When you look up at the stars, do you see the constellations? When astronomers refer to V509 Cassiopeiae, they believe in the shape of the stars they call Cassiopeia. Do they believe the shape is a real thing? Of course — I can draw it for you, it’s there every night and looks like a W! Of course not — you cannot touch it, it’s just an artifact of how we try to understand the Universe and our place in it! The God of Christianity is a concept that is there if you believe in him, and is not there if you don’t. To prove his existence is meaningless. It provides the same struggle as trying to prove that Cassiopeia exists, or what it means at an atomic level to touch an object, or whether complex multicellular organisms are one single being or a colony of many beings.
