The news media in Northern California has been reporting on them for years, always using the name “sideshow”. They most commonly happen at urban intersections but have even popped up on freeways and bridges.

  True, but the name comes from it being done draw people away from the main event. The real action is (or was, anyway) happening somewhere else and the idea was to distract the cops for a while.
