Because so much of the modern right has hitched its wagon to COVID conspiracy theories, climate change denial, transphobia, election denial, etc. "Centre right", to my mind is "cut taxes and solve policy problems with the free market", not "everybody involved in supporting trans children is secretly pedophiles". And there just aren't a lot of those in media discourse anymore.
