I have a textbook on processor design from 1979, and microcode was the go-to technique described in it.
- pwg 4y agoWikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microcode#History https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microcode#History) dates it back to 1951 and Maurice Wilkes.
