What did you do during these 3 months?
- VirusNewbie 4y agoWhat do you mean? I had a job the entire time, and I interviewed at MSFT and NFLX in the meantime. Otherwise i would just periodically check in with my G recruiter trying to balance some urgency with politeness. I didn’t get an offer from NFLX but they came across extremely well, i’m very bullish on the company solely based on the culture and talent I met. The MSFT experience was the exact opposite!
- KennyBlanken 4y agoI'm not sure if you're aware of this, but referring to companies by their stock tickers in casual conversation does not impress anyone.
- shyn3 4y agoIf you speak the business language, which is the market, your potential for promotions increases. Also, your comment comes off as a bit rude.
- jedberg 4y agoPretty sure it wasn't to impress anyone, but to save keystrokes. In both cases the stock ticker is shorter than the company name, and everyone instantly knows what you're talking about.
- rescripting 4y agoI actually had to google it because I thought it had something to do with the NFL (National Football League).
- Existenceblinks 4y agoTo be fair, it's true and the parent point is true too. I think everyone has right to brag.
- necovek 4y agoMS and Netflix is only 1 character longer than MSFT and NFLX while being more understandable on HN, and compared to the rest of the comment and its length, those savings are irrelevant. Not making a judgement call on the use of the stock markers, just doubting it's done for the efficiency.

The MSFT experience was the exact opposite! Maybe the complacency combined with the large organization side? It feels like MSFT would be 'safer' if less exciting.
