Text to speech is pretty much a solved question at this point, but nobody said it will replace voice actors, nor did it. It conquered TikTok, I'll give you that, but that's barely an accomplishment.
For me AI art is the same thing. It can give you serviceable material in a very fast time, but that's it. It's a Big Mac of the art industry. It's not gonna kill artists like how McDonald's didn't kill restaurants or even rival fast food chains or gourmet hamburger shops, because the only thing redeemable in AI art is you get variations of well-known styles (putting "trending on ArtStation" in the prompt to make it look good is a thing. let that sink in).
- bitwize 4y agoText to speech isn't really a solved problem yet. Within the next few years, it will be possible to prompt "Sonic the Hedgehog saying: 'I'm sure that'll work, just like the last thousand plans you had, Eggman' with heavy sarcasm" and get a read that's indistinguishable from Roger Craig Smith's. But we're not quite there yet. The models for GLaDOS are very, very close, enough to allow YouTubers to create their own skits -- but getting an AI to sound like an AI is, for obvious reasons, a relative doddle.
