Ask HN: Covid Data for China
Two sources today listed completely different numbers for China’s COVID infection numbers for yesterday. Any suggestions?
I don’t care if source is in Chinese as long as there’s way to get it in English; for example, using Google Translate.
- yorwba 4y agoIf you want it straight from the horse's mouth, the National Health Commission publishes daily updates on their website: http://www.nhc.gov.cn/wjw/xinw/xwzx.shtml http://www.nhc.gov.cn/wjw/xinw/xwzx.shtml E.g. the statistics for 2022-11-25 are at http://www.nhc.gov.cn/xcs/yqtb/202211/b741658e3325404ea22e74ab73e01637.shtml http://www.nhc.gov.cn/xcs/yqtb/202211/b741658e3325404ea22e74... As you can see, they actually publish a bunch of different numbers. New symptomatic cases on the mainland are listed first, but different sources may decide to include asymptomatic cases or cases reported by Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan (which then runs into problems e.g. because Taiwan stopped publishing the number of people discharged from hospital a year ago, so that figure has been stuck at 13742 since then). And of course different sources may disagree about the meaning of "yesterday". If you want visualizations, https://news.sina.cn/zt_d/yiqing0121 https://news.sina.cn/zt_d/yiqing0121 basically shows the numbers from the report.
