They've been hammering the gay=pedo thing hard for the last few weeks. Expect more attacks soon. Not a lot we can do to stop the already armed lone wolves that they have created.
Even from people in hobby communities I'm in, I've heard the "I'm sick of the lgbtq" sentiment getting repeated. Like God damn, these people spend their free time finding shit to be outraged about on Instagram, then pretend their way of life is under attack by gay people.
This is the most hysterical tribalism I've seen since 1-6
- krapp 4y agoLinking LGBTQ sexuality with pedophilia has been part of both right-wing Republican and Evangelical ideology for a very long time, and the current moral panic goes back at least as far as Pizzagate. And now with the Club Q shooting you have right-wingers claiming it was justified because of fears of pedophiles and "groomers," and the shooter's father saying he's relieved his son was a mass murderer rather than gay. I'd bet more than a few Evangelicals believe it was God's will. If the only good thing to come from Trumpism is the death-spiral of American Evangelical Christianity as it ties the millstone of white supremacy and hatred around its neck and follows Trump into the abyss, I'd say it was worth it. Almost.
