"Shoot yourself before you spend money on an expresso machine. Coffee is for closers." Awesome. But he follows that up with "Sodas are free." Wha? Please share your free soda hacks.
- fallentimes 18y agoIs soda cheaper? I don't know, but I would guess it's cheaper than espresso and close to the same price as store bought coffee.
- a-priori 18y agoIf you make it yourself, coffee is really cheap, and I say this despite buying good-quality, Fair Trade beans. Paying coffee shop rates, however, is a rip off (Starbucks, I'm looking at you). Also figure that if drinking it improves your productivity at all, it's money well spent.
- izaidi 18y agoHang onto a McDonald's cup and keep asking for free refills.
- staunch 18y agoAnd take a cup out of the trash for unlimited free coffee!
- ojbyrne 18y ago"Coffee is for closers" == "I've watched Glengarry Glen Ross way too many times"
- mrtron 18y agoIt is an entertaining movie though. But I think there is a rule about using that phrase in real life. The same applies to the: We're adding a little something to this month's sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anybody want to see second prize? Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired.
- jraines 18y agoShort quotes are a lot better for use in real life, if you're going to quote something to make a point.
- jraines 18y agoIt's a great line from a great speech, and it was perfect for this context.
- mcargian 18y agoPretty sure he was referring to Calacanis' horrible post on how to "save money" by buying a $3,000 to $5,000 espresso machine.
- jraines 18y agoYes.
- ojbyrne 18y agoI think espresso machines get a bum rap - there are cheaper, and more importantly, more maintenance/mess free alternatives to big commercial barista machines.
- run4yourlives 18y agoCheap espresso machines are almost universally crap. This is certainly one case where value correlates to cost. Point is, if you really want an espresso, go to a fricken coffee shop.
- ojbyrne 18y agoI guess it's more of a coffee maker, even though it has crema, but where I work everyone loves our Senseo: http://www.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=136943&PartnerID=FROOGLE&BannerID=PD677 http://www.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=136943...
- fallentimes 18y agoWhich is even more funny because Cuban is a major investor in Mahalo.
- mhartl 18y agoI agree: never buy an expresso machine. An good espresso machine, on the other hand, is probably a good investment.
- mhartl 18y agos/an good/a good Jeebus, that's two errors in my own comments I've caught this week. And I'm an obsessive copyeditor.
- laut 18y agoIn his defense, they spell it expresso in France. Either way you should be able to a good one and a grinder for less than about US$2000 most places. If you can afford to have several employees, spending $2K should be doable.
