Wasn’t Python originally conceived as a systems configuration language?
- abrax3141 4y agoYou may be thinking of PERL (more precisely "report generation", I think). AFAIK, Python was conceived as a sort of modern BASIC -- general purpose, easy to use language.
- p_l 4y agoPython was conceived as teaching language, continuation of the ideas behind ABC. I recall at least one public row between BDFL and the rest due to Guido calling on that legacy as reasoning for why negative hex numbers should be written like -0x1 instead of one's complement that a lot of people seemed to prefer for technical reasons.
