Those things aren't mutually exclusive, they're actually quite complimentary. Nice working environment = happy, more productive employees = better for the bottom line. Also, I wouldn't want any employee working for me that thinks to themselves, "Gee, I thought this company was being good to me but it turns out they're trying to make money." It's the whole point.
