“They were used to push pro-Western narratives across the world… But they had also proven largely unsuccessful.”
Given the uproar over Russian propaganda on Facebook during the 2016 election it seems rather hypocritical of the US government to pursue this.
- lost_tourist 4y agoNone of this takes into account the audience or sheer numbers of accounts which I would be willing to bet is dwarfed by the size of russian and chinese fake accounts. It is so easy to spot russian and chinese trolls on facebook. If you just go through the comments on any political based you'll find them. Go to their facebook profile and it's nothing but fake article after fake article that no normal person would bother with posting. A lot of them are thirst traps based on the banner/profile pic. Most accounts have been around for a while too.
