Its obviously retarded, but I'm not so worried, most cars are gargantuan 10M+balls of decades old C that no one understands, and no one has ever audited or gone through to fix warnings. Almost everything is communicated along joint databuses typically can, which sends everything everywhere by default. They are so ridiculously easy to hack you can do it over wifi or bluetooth it should not have in the first place, but the sound system is no doubt connected to the airbag. However, if you have physical access to the system the opportunities are endless, and for every engineer that tries to fix security issues, you have three like the guy who tried to argue that his fantastic innovation of partial self implemented 16 bit encryption would make the can secure. For these reasons I dont expect a single one of the old car companies to achieve secure code in our lifetime, meaning sure, it will be a little inconvenient, but when was the last time you used a browser without an adblocker.
