I'm optimistic about electric cars, but pessimistic when the companies producing them are the most craven financializers like this.
Sometimes I wonder if there would be a market for a "maximally analog electric car" where, for example, the accelerator pedal is a potentiometer.
- carlmr 4y ago>"maximally analog electric car" where, for example, the accelerator pedal is a potentiometer. What else do you think is being used for accelerator pedals?
- mysterydip 4y agoI think they're referring to the end result mimicing user input. Right now most cars are "drive by wire" where your pedal input is just one of many factors in the computer's "input by committee" before the final acceleration is sent to the motor controller.
- whatgoodisaroad 4y agoI'm probably referring to the wrong component, yeah, but what I'm imagining is a car with no digital intermediaries between the pedal and the power going through the wheels.
- kube-system 4y agoNobody uses a potentiometer as a throttle pedal because they may fail in any position. 2 or 3 potentiometers are used, and only upon agreement of the signals do they propel the vehicle. That's why the pedal has digital electronics in it, and you don't have some dumb potentiometers wired straight to an ADC input on the ECU.
